CORONA VIRUS RESPONSE
TO MASK OR NOT TO MASK?
Following the most recent Michigan Executive Order, EO 2020-147,
the District is offering recommendations regarding the wearing of
facial masks in public worship to guide pastors and congregations
of the Michigan District, LCMS. Read the attached document.
Affirmations and guidance are offered in response to questions
received by our Michigan District staff and leaders. Wearing a
face mask is not an issue of doctrine or practice. However, we
do believe it is an issue of public witness and Christian concern
for our neighbor.
Please note: The document is not intended to direct our Lutheran
Day Schools and Early Childhood Learning Centers as such
ministries have very unique concerns to engage as the weeks
pass and lead toward the school year's opening sessions.

COVID 19
The coronavirus is active in the state. God created
viruses, and all that He created is good. So, believe
that God will bring good out of this situation. In the
meantime, let us heed advice from public health
agencies who say, to prevent catching a virus, be it
influenza or corona, take these precautions. We do
not know who is carrying the virus, so …
► Wash hands with soap and water often, for at
least 20 seconds [The duration of the Lord’s Prayer].
► Cough and sneeze into your elbow or shoulder.
► Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose, and mouth.
► Practice “social distancing” – keeping a 6-foot
perimeter away from others. Be vigilant. If you have
symptoms of any kind [Fever, heavy cough,
shortness of breath],
► STAY HOME.
► Call your primary doctor before showing up at a
health care facility. At church, refrain from hugging or
shaking hands. Instead, bump a fist or rub an elbow!
FOR LENT PICK UP… …
good hygiene habits.
§ If you use a tissue, immediately throw it away and
wash your hands.
§ Keep your distance in public if you are ill or if others
are sick.
§ STAY HOME if you are feeling ill
§ If you exhibit these symptoms – coughing, fever,
shortness of breath, contact your doctor.
